The Requirements

To be a strong fit for the Quality Assurance Manager opportunity, you will have:

  • At least 5 years of direct work experience with QA systems, regulations, guidelines, and associated standards  Quick question for you - click here
  • 3+ years of management or supervisory experience  
  • Direct knowledge of QA methodologies
  • Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents
  • Skill developing, reviewing, and maintaining metrics and quality audits
  • Practical experience with risk management, product testing, capability studies, and control plans
  • Solid business acumen
  • A high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, e.g. Word, Excel (formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.), PowerPoint and Outlook 
  • Training and knowledge of Six Sigma techniques and Lean Manufacturing are desirable
  • Previous budgetary responsibility is a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to visit other facilities, attend meetings and training, etc. Most often (perhaps once per quarter) you will travel to a sister facility located in Georgia, approximately 3.5 hours away by car

The Role

Opportunity Snapshot
Reporting to the Director of Food Safety, Quality and Technical Services (located off-site), with a dotted line to the local Plant Manager, as Quality Assurance Manager at our Troy, Alabama plant, your mission will be to ensure that quality standards and procedures are met and aligned with legislative requirements and customer specifications. You will also establish performance standards, procedures, and audit controls in order to meet business requirements, as well as identify and implement process improvements to increase the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of plant operations.

Position Details
As Quality Assurance Manager, you will work closely with QA Supervisor and indirectly manage the QA team which covers plant operations 24/7. You will also interact regularly with your supervisor and with the other QA Managers seated across all six Golden Boy plants, having weekly conference calls, collaborating and contributing your ideas and expertise to the group.

Serving as the senior on-site quality leader, you will manage a QA Supervisor managing a QA team of eight. Quick question for you - click here  You will be responsible for overseeing the plant’s quality assurance policies and controlling new product development processes alongside the Commercialization team. You will interact daily with Commercialization.

Typically, you will work business hours but should be willing to flex (such as working when shifts overlap) as necessary to interact with team members across shifts and keep your finger on the pulse of the team.  Visibility on the floor will be essential as you lead the QA function and work with the QA team and leadership plant wide. We anticipate your role will be approximately 70% / 30%, functional desk duties / time on the floor watching quality processes and working with personnel.

Your specific duties will include:
  • Providing strong leadership by:
    • Developing and directing QA and quality improvement initiatives for all company products and services
    • Being audit ready every day
    • Providing a visible floor presence to the Operations teams daily
    • Ensuring employees are intimately familiar with procedures and practices related to their area of responsibility
    • Overseeing customer auditors and assuming responsibility for ensuring corrective actions with customer specifications, non-conformances, inquiries and complaints
    • Ensuring IFS compliance
  • Publishing statistics regarding performance against set QA KPI goals and driving improvement to these through active and clear communication with the Operations teams
  • Acting as SQF Practitioner and PCQI (Preventative Control Qualified Individual) for FSMA compliance
  • Performing gap analysis between applicable and current SQF standards; establishing and implementing a quality plan to bring the company into SQF compliance
  • Performing internal QA audits that are compliant with corporate policies, practices, and procedures
  • Collaborating with client-facing QA representatives to ensure full customer satisfaction with the Company’s products and services
  • Establishing and maintaining a QA program for monitoring supplier quality, including audits, controls, and other qualifiers
  • Conducting risk analyses, verification, validation activities, and formal design reviews, as applicable
  • Supporting new product development and continuous improvement by integrating quality control tools (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) into processes
  • Promoting and advocating quality achievement and performance improvement across the organization
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation
  • Persuading staff to adopt and incorporate quality methods into their work
  • Creating and maintaining QA control documentation
  • Identifying relevant QA training needs and opportunities
  • Maintaining a constant awareness of company profitability, including budgetary control issues
  • Attending conferences and other events to actively stay on the leading edge of QA
